DESCRIPTION
"Aaroh is hands down one of the best musical groups in Pakistan, if not the best. We love their songs; their music is refreshing and eclectic, their lyrics are meaningful, the vocals are par excellence; all in all, it's a treat hearing Aaroh songs.
What we love about this album is that there is a song in there for everyone. Whether you are 15 or 50, there's at least one song you'd love.
For example, the title song "Raag Neela" is a very hip, young track that will appeal to all young listeners for its beat, but to older listeners as well for its short but deep lyrics.
Changing to a different tune, "Ik Chah" (A Desire) is that timeless melody like Aaroh's "Naa Kaho" from their first album. Penned by Shafqat Amanat Ali (of Fuzon), Ik Chah is a versatile romantic ballad that equally fits happy times as well as any unwanted time apart. The lyrics to this song are really nice and to add that special romantic touch, the vocalist Farooq has dedicated this song to his wife Konple Ahmed.
"Woh Jo Kehday Mujhe..." is about unconditional surrender in love and giving up your heart and soul to the one you love. There's a lot of depth in the lyrics.
Our favorite "Khuda" is a classic. This song is the kind that gives you goosebumps and, if you are in that kind of mood, brings tears to your eyes. We have definitely not heard a song of this calibre in a very long time.
"Yaara" is a light romantic melody to which you can sing along on a long drive. A nice, energetic beat with Farooq's crooning makes Yaara fit for a movie soundtrack, and you can almost visualize it as the perfect background for a "let's get back together" setting.
"Dyrah" is another good one on this album. You will like the way the music gives in to an interesting tune and very semi-classical type vocals. The lyrics are very good!
"Jo Akhon Mein" is almost a Hemant Kumar classic sung in the new millennium. Soulful and sad, this song is one of those melodies you play over and over when you are not on cloud nine...and we don't mean it in a bad way! This is good food for the sad soul!!
Some of the songs (e.g. Meherbaan) sound a bit like Junoon - lots of guitars and emphatic vocals. The good news is that they sound like the better Junoon music. Pyaar Ka Jaal, though rated highly by listeners on different Pakistani music sites did not quite appeal to us on first or second hearing. That should not stop you from liking it, of course!
The band has also tried something not so new, but still interesting. They sang "Gharoli" (previously made famous by Abida Parveen) in the rock style. Whether you'll prefer it to Abida's version is subjective!
All in all, we love the Raag Neela album. It is fresh, soulful, and very mature for a band that's just releasing its second album. The collection is eclectic enough to appeal to a wide audience, the lyrics were obviously penned with significant thought and emotion behind them, and the compositions are very catchy.
If you haven't heard Aaroh before, you will not regret adding them to your collection. If you are already an Aaroh fan, then we don't need to say any more!" - thesaturdaypost.com
